List of persons assassinated during the night of April 17-18, 1942. Typescript in Polish.
ARG II/0158
The purpose of the ‘Bloody Night’ in April 1942 was to decapitate the resistance within the Ghetto. 52 people were shot in their homes (the document mentions only 48) on their doorstep or in the street by Gestapo commandos and the SS. For the most part they were political leaders and people in charge of the underground press and the Mutual aid organizations. One of these victims was Menahem Linder, who was an economist in charge of the statistics department of the Jewish Mutual Aid (ZSS), and founding member of Oyneg Shabbes who had collected statistics, which are preserved in the archives, on the ghetto population from September 1939 to September 1941.
